October 2025 Update

Welcome to the October update.  

The work on the O4’s axleboxes is continuing so no news on the tender lift at present. Work has continued on the tender. Following the attention to the  cab end, we are moving on to the top rear end around the water fillers. A start has been made to remove the old paint and the rust around the seams and angles. Some areas of thin plate will need the attention of the welder.

In the Machine Shop, work on machining the valve ports on the valve liners has been completed. We will then focus on the new casting for the Blast Pipe cap. The new roof stay bolts are also nearly finished with the final hexagonal head machining to do.

The cab will require a new wooden floor. We have retained the old boards which will be used as patterns. This is a major piece of carpentry as it stands about 2 feet above the drag box and is made with hard wood. It includes to thick planks that sit across the width of the cab on the dragbox. We have a drawing, and our carpenter has taken on the challenge of deciphering the drawing and constructing the new floor.

If you would like to get involved without getting too dirty, our sales shop at Loughbough is open during events at the GCR.
